Exceptionally Eclectic – 5th One’s a Charm

After living in and decorating five houses,

Carmel of Our Fifth House certainly knows her stuff!

I can definitely relate to her design attitude of No Fear, No Rules.

And her directive to Be Nice Or Leave!

Carmel even made her hubs happy with the coolest vintage and mod man cave ever.

Yes, even men need zebra print!

The rich bedroom wall color is the perfect back drop for the sentimental number art Carmel created (think kindergarten fingerprinting).

Gotta love a gal that puts a red scarf  on a horse’s head in her family room!

You’d never guess that these ikat stenciled drapes started life as painter’s drop clothes.

Carmel’s got a great tip on turning ordinary craft paint into fabric paint.

And the best part – they’re no-sew (I can’t sew a button so these are my dream curtains)!

  1. Carmel is so incredibly talented. She has such an eye for design and great projects. Those urns turned upside down for the shelf on the potting bench are so clever.

    What a great feature 🙂

  2. Cute stuff. I do have a cash register just like that from our old building. I am currently under utilizing it’s decorating possibilities as a sun room door stop. And I want a big blue potting bench that looks cute like that.

  3. Believe it or not, I have seen some of these pics and heard the name Our 5th House but don’t know as I’ve ever been to the blog. Heading over Right. Now! Love the pop of color with the EAT sign in the kitchen and the eclectic feel of the mad cave. Another great feature, Kelly!

  4. I remember seeing Carmel’s foyer a while back and I had a jaw dropping moment. Love the red scarf on the horses head. Maybe Carmel and you can visit me in California and help me finish my unfinished rooms….I need this magic touch 😉 -K

  5. Love the words (the way she did them as much as sentiment) on the beautiful blue wall by the stairs. The rest of the house is p.r.e.t.t.y. darn nice, too.

  6. thanks for introducing me to Carmel and her fifth home. I’m with you…love the “throw the design rules out the window” approach.

  7. Please – where did you get the white horses head????? I’ve been looking for one and can only find other types of animals.

    Thanks!

  8. The horse head was purchased at ZGallerie about 2 years ago. It’s not available any longer – but maybe you could check on ebay. I’ve found discontinued items there before. Hope that helps!
