I used to hate cheese.

I wouldn’t touch the stuff – the smell kept me far far away.

Oh, of course I ate mozzarella on my pizza but that was as far as it went.

Until …

I discovered Brenta.

It was love at first bite.

Now I’m addicted and have to avoid the cheese shop at all costs.

But when I do break down, I can show off my cheese in style with these gilded cheese markers.

Cheese Markers from Plastic Toys

1) buy cheap plastic toys from the dollar store

2) spray paint them (I used white and black)

3) add gold accents with a gold leafing pen

4) add to your cheese board, pour a glass of wine and enjoy

Cheese – we have a love/hate relationship.

I love it but my hips don’t!

  1. Could I please just live inside your head for one day? (or would it be overwhelming for me?) Where do you come up with this awesomeness? I’ve loved following your blog for the last 3 months. Every. Single. Post. has inspired me to be more thrifty and creative. Including this one!!! Yea for cheese… and the Dollar Store! xoxo jules

  2. Brenta….I have to check this out! Is it kind of like blue cheese?

And just for the record….. I love cheese….and your cheese markers!

Have a great day rock star!

  3. I’m no cheese connoisseur, I don’t know the names of most, but if there is a sample – unless it says Limburger – I’ll snap it up in a flash. So of course I have to find some Brenta now.

  4. Kelly, only you can make plastic toys like these look uber-cool! I’m no cheese person myself, but may just try this fave of yours. Have a lovely day!

  5. Love it…we have a TON of these lil plastic animals around our house between our two boys and I thought they would make the cutest push pins. I thought I’d cut them in half, spray them with some gold spray paint and then glue them to a tac. Well, when I tried to cut them in half…I started feeling like Sid from Toy Story and I couldn’t do it!?!? lol!!! So, this idea of keeping the in one piece hanging out with some cheese is such a better idea! 😉 lol! I’m also not a huge cheese fan so I will have to try some Brenta! Jesse @ Scout & Nimble

  6. Is that why my hips are expanding? Cheese lover here, but I’m unfamiliar with Brenta. Will look for it because I’m in charge of the fruit and cheese table at a charity event next week! We are using a burlap and farm theme. Your markers would be adorable!

  7. You are just a treasure trove of the best kitschy DIY ideas. I love each one more than the previous. I LOVE this idea. Oh I wish I didn’t love cheese so much. The stronger and smellier the better. I could blow my entire grocery budget on cheese. Now, Brenta is a cheese I have not met and I must go search for it! Is it like a Manchego or Parmesan? My mouth is watering thinking about it…….

  8. I’ve used plastic toys to identify the different meats at our wild game dinners, but never thought of using it for cheese! What a cute idea! And we are cheese fanatics here…always have a few kinds in the fridge.
    Debbie 🙂

  9. I love cheese and serve it often when we have a get-together. I love the idea of the cheese marker, such a fun idea. I definitely need to copy this. I would love for you to link this up to my Inspire Me party going on now. Hope to see you there. Hugs, Marty

  10. Too cute! I have an entire herd in a box downstairs that the girls use to play with. Pigs would be cute with ham cubes! lol Okay…maybe not! I’ll have to try this cheese you speak of. I must remember the name! Brenta!

  11. Cheese is the bomb!! Glass of wine – some really good parmesan shaved onto some crackers!! Oh yeah! Adorable idea Kelly to add some whimsy to a cheese plate!!! Pinning!
