What’s on My Nightstand (& How I Spend My Kid Free Time)!

My girls went off to camp yesterday.

Instead of reliving my pre mom days and partying like a crazy woman (think belly button shots!) do you want to know what I do when they’re gone?

I turn into the crazy stalker lady …

yes, I search the camp website for pictures of them …

the backs of their heads, a finger, a speck of red shoelace.

I gotta get a life!

Or I can just happily continue my stalking ways and miss their cute little faces.

Counting down the days til they get home.

P.S. My studly hubby misses them just as much.

As I am typing this, he’s emailing them and is including random fun facts to amuse them!

Did you know a crocodile can’t stick out it’s tongue and that starfish don’t have brains?

I didn’t but now my girls will!

(if you have a random fun fact, please share so we can amuse our girls)!

P.P.S.  Life isn’t all sadness and stalking – I’ll be mixing up a few batches of my fabulous Summer Sangria!  Trust me, it’s amazing!

P.P.P.S. My friend Vel shared what some of her favorite bloggers have on their nightstands - including mine!

  1. Just wait…about the time they start driving, you won’t miss them quite as much when they take off for wherever. You’ll just worry.

  2. Fun fact I want to know from your girls instead…. based on what my nightstand looks like, “did your mom clean off that nightstand before she took that photo?”. Your kids would tell me the truth. Inquiring minds will also need to know how much sangria you have consumed by weeks end.

  3. cool to have the camp webcam. I know what you will be doing for the next two weeks.

  4. Aw, I know the feeling! My son just got home from Spain and Portugal and I could only see him on their blog for 10 days! I’m sure they’re having a fantastic time. Now go thrifting and mix up some sangria!

  5. When my son went to camps…long, long ago..there were no websites, etc….so to keep myself busy, we dropped him off, and toured the state he was camping (soccer) in …that kept my mind off missing him…enjoy your “me” time. Love our nightstand vignette!!!

  6. My kids have all gone to camp and all I have is facebook! :) And did you know that the king of hearts is the only king without a moustache. :)

    Happy day to you!

  7. Oh that is too funny…only because I am sure when mine get old enough to go to camp, I will be doing the same thing! lol! I hope you enjoy your week and that they have a fabulous time at camp! ;)

  8. Oh I do so remember those days, cute post. I don’t have any cute fun facts, but I do like your nightstand. Hugs, Marty

  9. Kelly, cute post. Your girls are so adorable in that picture on your nightstand!! I think I would be checking things out too. They are your girls, I would be checking out where my puppies were going for some playtime. Now how sad is that!!! Enjoy your days for yourself and the cuties will be home before you know.

  10. Awww… that is sweet! I always like my kids more when they’re away at camp…. just kidding!!! Looking forward to seeing you at Haven. You better have a glass of wine with me! :)

  11. Thank you so much for the shout out Kelly dear! I feel for you honey, I too was a stalker while my son was at camp, Facebook was how I stalked. Anyway, as for the ‘fun’ facts, well I can only share one, it’s a health fact – Did you know that a can of regular soda is equal to 15 heaping tsps. of sugar? Can you imagine eating that much sugar? But yeah, we can drink it often though! The doc in me (or is it the nerd in me) is showing here. Keep it cool dear and enjoy the sangria!

  12. Okay here’s a few facts your girls might get a kick out of. An adult bald eagle has on the average 7,200 feathers. And goldfish don’t pee. They only poop! ( My classroom always giggle over that one.) Your night stand is so pretty! The picture of the girls is adorable. Jealous of your orchid…I never have the best luck with them. My bed side table has pictures of husband and I, a birds nest I found last summer, my current read, my grandfathers reading glasses, a few jars of antique buttons and a telephone insulator. Sweet little treasures. Your posts are always so much fun Kelly. Cheers!

  13. I think I’m going to need that spy cam for kindergarten next year! Your nightstand looks great!

  14. Well Kelly you sound just like my daughter. Her daughter went to her first 2 week camp at Skyland this summer, she was a nervous wreck. Sent an email everyday even though they only allow so many a week. sent mail everyday as we did too. and of course, scoured the webpage every day for the tinniest bit of her daughter.
And here is my fact: 25 elephants will fit inside a blue whale.

I’m a new reader and have been enjoying myself reading back posts. Love your creativity.

  15. What a sweet post. My son went to sleep away camp for the first time this year. He was only gone a week, but I missed him terribly and I just wanted to follow him around when he got home.
By the way, did you know that you will probably eat about 35,000 cookies in your lifetime? Better make that 45,000 for me. I was the original cookie monster as a kid. I rarely meet a home backed cookie I don’t like.

  16. Fun fact: A bouquet of __ hydrangeas in a bell jar with ___ much water in it weighs 2.5 lbs. according to our antique kitchen scale. You know, the white one with pictures of food on the face.
