Guest Room No More!

Guest Room - before it's converted into an office/craft room kellyelko.com

You’ve seen tons of rooms in my house tour but you’ve never been up to my third floor.

This long forgotten guest room is a mish mash of stuff.

It’s also where guests sleep when they visit.

But not anymore!   I’m taking back this space and turning it into my office/craft room!

Sorry guests but there’s a sofa with your name on it – cause mama needs her space.

Guest Room - love the exposed brick kellyelko.com

The exposed brick is staying – I made sure we didn’t cover that up when we renovated.

Makes me feel very cool girl living in a Soho loft.

My daughter is thrilled because she got the big bed (no more twin for her).

I’ve started with the closet – no more craft armoire for me.

So the next time you see this space, it will be transformed into my sanctuary …

a place where I hide from the kids …

I mean get my creative juices flowing.

Stay tuned …

  1. What a lovely space! I can’t wait to see what you do with it. I love love love that knitted quilt at the end of the bed. Did you make it?

  2. Oh I can’t wait to see what you do with it. I LOVE having my own room to create, write, whatever. My family is very happy my stuff isn’t blanketing the kitchen table, the island, the dining table and anywhere else one may desire to sit and actually enjoy a meal not laced with hot glue, paint and pieces of drop cloths.

One thing I learned, make a space for yourself when you are sitting in there that someone can’t immediately see you if they look through the door. I have a little room divider simply made with a souped up drop cloth. It is awesome, my kids come looking for me and if they can’t see me, I am invisible. This has dramatically reduced the call of the wild so frequently heard around here, “mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom.” Yes?

  5. I can’t wait to see what you do with this amazing space – how exciting!

My son moved out last summer & was married a few weeks ago so I’m renovating his space into my craft room as well. I do plan to leave a twin size bed in there for guests though, mother-in-law is our rare guest. I have so many fun plans & a pinterest board full of ideas to try. I’ll be watching to see if I can fit any of your ideas into my new room.

  9. THAT is going to be so awesome! If I had a huge basement like you, I could store all my home decor in it and use the spare room for and office/craft room. I’m sure Austin wouldn’t mind sleeping on the couch right? hehe.

It’s going to be so awesome!!
