Shutterfly By Design Townhouse Decorating Ideas, My BFF Martha & What a View!
Where else but in NYC can you go to an amazing design event, have your pic snapped with Martha Stewart and have cocktails overlooking the most amazing view all in the same night?
Little did I know what was in store for me as I hopped on a train and headed into New York for a high style home design party hosted by Shutterfly.
Yes, Shutterfly is way more than photo books. They have the most amazing things for the home too.
The concept is simple.
Turn a blank white slate into something that is only limited by your imagination.
Each “room” was styled by top designers and some of my favorites were …
Michelle Workman brought it with this bold living room. She drew the amazing chinoiserie pattern and had it transferred onto acrylic prints from Shutterfly. Pieced together on a focal wall, it’s a showstopper!
This table is actually three pieces of wood wall art printed with a semi precious stone pattern – you can see the wood grain through the design.
Olivia Palermo designed a glam girly living room that was blinged out with very chic accents and pops of color.
Her artwork was transferred to canvas, metal and mounted wall art for a fun gallery wall and a fleece blanket was transformed into a bold floral print rug.
Brit Morin created a room that melted my ice cream cone.
Another piece of wood wall art printed with a graphic image and turned into a coffee table.
I love how you can take a palette of inspiration colors and create a room, including art and pillows, around it using your own designs.
I wanted to pop myself a giant bowl of popcorn and pull up a pouf at this boho chic movie night.
Plates, pillows, throws, coasters …
everything you need to personalize your next party.
Got a favorite saying?
Turn it into mounted wall art and add your own LED lights.
No room for a fireplace? No worries – just make a chiminea wall decal.
I wanted to hop into that bathtub with a glass of wine and a vat of Calgon.
Creative ideas were flowing and included images printed on glass and turned into a mobile, a wooden bathtub tray inscribed with a fun quote, the iPad holder covered in a favorite book jacket design and water droplet pillows.
Christmas was in full swing too.
Need a creative backsplash? Print your favorite designs onto coasters and line them up.
More personalized pillows – I love the Christmas lights and the gold sequins.
The Christmas tree printed on four pieces of wood wall art is perfect for small spaces where a real tree just won’t fit.
Gorgeous metal prints with LED lights.
Set the table in style – love the idea of printing the menu right on the plates for guests to enjoy.
Oh, I forgot to mention that my BFF Martha and I posed for the paparazzi.
After I toured the Shutterfly by Design townhouse, I was whisked off to Kevin Sharkey’s amazing home with a view to die for.
Kevin is the SVP, Executive Editorial Director of Decorating, and Executive Creative Director of Merchandising at Martha Stewart Living and he wined and dined us while I lived vicariously through him for a few brief hours in his stunning Manhattan apartment.
Have bike, will travel.
He gave us a tour of his apartment including the inspiration board in his shoe closet.
Gorgeous art is mixed with Colorforms for his god children and Shutterfly playing cards that tie in with the marble theme.
He went with the theme of stone and printed everything, from plates to note cards to placemats to glass prints (used as trays) to vinyl wall decals to trim his bathroom mirror, with a photo of marble that looked so chic
Kevin’s favorite thing was customizing his bathroom mirror with a vinyl wall decal – it’s a definite favorite of mine too.
The marble theme continued through dessert with a coffee table strewn with a marble-inspired glass print plated macarons and the most amazing orchids.
The icing on the French macaron was perching on the balcony watching the sun set over the river while sipping French Chardonnay with the amazing Shutterfly team and Kevin …
and he even gave us parting gifts. I’ll be using these playing cards to gear up for the blackjack tables on my next trip to Vegas.
So many amazing ideas and I can’t wait to show you what I’m whipping up in the Shutterfly by Design studio. Stay tuned.
P.S. There’s a great Shutterfly sale coming up July 10-15 where you can save up to 50% off of your entire order! Code: GETMORE

Disclosure: Thanks Shutterfly and the Martha Stewart team for asking me to be a part of Shutterfly by Design. I only speak the truth.
WOW. Seriously. Like WOW. Everything about it-the amazing designs, your BBF Martha, the view!! What a way to spend a day in the big apple!! I would love to see those designs in real life-are they planning on taking this show on the road?
This is the second year they’ve done the townhouse and both times in NY – just once a year. Taking it on the road is a great idea!
So much fun! I love Olivia’s room. The brass frame chairs!!!! I found some at our ReStore lately and they give me a flash back because I was so mad that they priced them at $299 per chair which is ridiculous. I’m still upset. I wanted them so badly.
What an amazing event, Kelly! I did not know you could design all those great home décor pieces with Shutterfly … so inspiring!
How exciting for you, Kelly! You must be on cloud 9?! I am going to have to check out the Shutterfly Sale. Very cool stuff.
I am living vicariously through you! The creativity is overwhelming! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Holy amazing details!!! What an incredible experience. You look right at home hanging out on the balcony!!
What a most fabulous experience Kelly!!!..So very happy for you!!!….the townhouse was over the top gorgeous and how great to have toured the amazing apt of Kevin….and to meet THE Martha Stewart…?…fabulous…were your knees weak from excitement?….oh and love that table!..the setting is breathtaking!
Gah! And not in a good way. Waaaayyyy too much much! I like your stuff, this not so much. I don’t think there’s a single thing I would go for. I guess that’s the point, it’s for the young, seriously chic crowd (excluding Martha, of course). count me out
I’m with you Denise. Not my taste at all. Overdone and awkwardly uncomfortable would be my description, although I’m sure it was a fun and exciting experience.
What a cool trip! I’m sure that one will be “imprinted” on your daily musing for quite some time.
I love the printed menu on dinner plates and the glass print mobile. I may have to make a similar mobile for my nautical bathroom. 🙂
How FUN!!!!! How amazing to be invited and to meet your BFF! Love everything you got pics of! I’ll be heading to Shutterfly fo sho!
Now you look so great leaning against the railing all casual like you do things like that every day. How awesome for you to have that experience. You certainly carried it off well. I’d have fallen on my face and not been able to speak a clear word all day.
How did you happen to get invited to that? I’m so envious but so glad it was you. I’d have been a nervous wreck. Then you get to have your photo with the Martha and all the participants on the terrace.
Those rooms were fantastic, used lots of technology in such inventive incredible ways. Were you floating for a few days after that? Very happy for you to have that experience. WOW. Happy summer days.
It was a great night JaneEllen! I work with the Martha Stewart team so was lucky to get an invite from them!
So New York-y!! I wouldn’t trust myself to behave appropriately.
How exciting! Looks like a great time!
What an amazing event, you lucky girl! Each room was more fabulous than the one previous!
Thanks doll,
The Glamorous Housewife
I was wondering if anyone knew who the artist is that did the canvas prints of the girls in different outfits at the desk. There’s some canvas and also a calendar and a record cover. I’d love to see more from whoever did those sketches. I know it says it was someones artwork but I wasn’t sure if it was Olivia’s as I can’t seem to find anything on that for her.
Jennifer – yes, Olivia created that artwork!
