Let the sun shine in.

What’s not to love about a room with three walls of windows?

Homework, tv time and relaxing – this room serves triple duty.

Zone 1 – Homework

Forget desks.  Take two cheap dining tables (these are from Ikea) and put them together.

Instant “no fighting because each twin has her own space” homework zone.

Text books, loose leaf paper, #2 pencils and highlighters that were once scattered on the floor now have a home.

I searched high and low for shelves for these narrow walls.

Jackpot – did you know Lamps Plus has more than just lamps!  Yes, I scored these perfectly perfect leaning shelves that now keep my girls organized.

Best part – I didn’t need a PhD to put them together!

Zone 3 – Relaxing

This is my zone!

A big comfy chair and a furry throw, a weathered desk and some shelves to keep the clutter at bay are all I need.

So bright and organized! I love the fun color choices. When I showed these pictures to my daughter, she begged me to start making some changes to our basement rec room, where she and all her friends hang out, a la the Eclecticaly Vintage Sunroom! Thanks for some much needed inspiration!

  19. Kelly,

What a great space, it is so bright and inviting. Good way to keep the kids doing their homework. Great color in this room as well.

  20. Oh what a fun sun room! So bright and colorful…just love how your mind works! Jealous of your white dog on the shelf. Is he an antique bank? I really need to give ours an upgrade. My husband calls it the “Kerr cave” because it’s where I keep my canaries, plants and crafting supplies. Love sitting out there on my big over stuffed couch with the sunshine, birds singing, and a stitching project in my hands! It’s painted a soft blue now but? I’ve been tempted to go a creamy yellow. Maybe a trip to Home Depot is in our future. You are always an inspiration Kelly!

  21. I adore this room on every level! I am curious about the black metal (?) painted piece to the left of your desk with the sheet music on top, looks like a bin of some type. I have never seen anything like that, what is it? Or more likely, what was it. :) Thanks Kelly!

  22. Wow, what a great space. The perfect room for creativity, relaxation and family time. I love all the vintage elements and the color mix. Truly creative and inspiring.

  23. Kelly I love this room SO much. It’s the happiest room in all of blogland!

  24. Lovely Kelly! The pop of electric blue is gorgeous! I love the little touches of vintage (of course) that you’ll incorporated, makes it feel so warm and cosy.

  25. I absolutely love it – the colors are fabulous and it looks so bright and cheerful! Those leaning shelves look great and I especially love that big basket on the lower shelf – where did you find it? Please keep sharing your home – it’s really inspirational.

  26. I love this space! It’s so cute! I want a sunroom like this!!

  27. Who is the budding flutist in the house? I’m a retired band director and professional flutist. Good to see kids are still practicing!

  28. I so love that room Kelly!!!…A room with so much purpose…a truly beautiful and well planned room…love every detail of the room!.

  29. I LOVE this room! The colors are so fun and the homework area almost makes me want to go back to school…almost. Love it all.

  30. What a neat space. I have similar leaning shelves that we bought from Lowes a few years ago. Love all the unusual lamps. Thanks for sharing.

  31. Kelly – it is all so awesome! I absolutely love it… such fabulous little touches everywhere that make it unique and custom- I love the leaning shelves, all the globe and the big map… the tables as desks mixed with mod chairs – the little corner for you. You have such an amazing talent for seamlessly blending different eras and styles and making it work together perfectly! Love all the colour!!

  32. I LOVE the yellow chairs. I can’t get enough yellow! I want to find a dresser to turn into a tv cabinet because we need the storage space but my husband doesn’t want to give up our ikea monstrosity. It’s the famous ikea black/brown and 3 pieces and is seriously killing my wanna be beach vibe for the family room.

He is going to be spending 4 months down in California for work this fall. Maybe I can just make him think a vintage yellow cabinet was always there :)

  33. Such a fun and colorful room! I love all the vintage touches.

  34. Love the room and the colors! What a fun place to hang out! Those yellow chairs are ADORABLE!

    Happy day to you!
    karianne

  35. Your sunroom looks fabulously funky! Love the bright colors and the little vintage touches (one might say they are eclectically vintage touches). My favorite is the children’s desk chairs. They look comfy, yet fun.

  36. Hey Kelly! I recognize that map. It’s the one that hung in my 5th grade classroom for too many years to count! And the chairs came right out of it, too! Hehe! Maybe I should have been slipping some of that stuff home with me! Joking aside, I LOVE your bright and happy sunroom, and it shines with your originality! Makes me want to turn our screened porch into a sunroom!

  37. This is SUCH a great space – I love every detail. It’s so sunny and cheery, too. Pinning! :)

  38. Kelly, this is such a great room – the details are all wonderful and the colors are fantastic! Thanks for sharing with us and pinning! Have a wonderful week!

  39. I love this space so much Kelly! I’m still crushing on your gorgeously painted media cabinet and those homework desks with the yellow chairs are fab!

  40. Oh how I wish I had a room with that much light!!! Such an awesome space :)

    Kristin

  42. I love the bowling trophy, and I have the owl! You gave me some great ideas here…as usual!

  43. I’m a big fan of multipurpose spaces. You’ve done a lovely job of making this room not only functional, but fun and lively (just like you!)

As always, I love your use of color and mix of new with vintage. Great style!

And it goes without saying how much I love Lamps Plus!!

  44. Beautiful room, love all the color and the way you utilized the space!

  45. barb hudson says:

You packed lots of punch into that space with a perfect mix pops of colour and natural light – what I love about the space is how the outside vistas seem to “seamlessly” blend with the inside vintages – you are lucky to have such a canvas to work with. The multi-functions of the space are wonderful too. Well done. :)

  46. linda carroll says:

    So fresh and colorful….love it!
